Healthy Super Bowl Sunday Spinach Dip (Dairy Free, Gluten Free, Vegan)


Although the Super Bowl is still two weeks away, there’s no time like the present to share a healthy, plant-based and delicious recipe that's Tom and Gisele approved!


Have you ever been invited to a Super Bowl party, or maybe have hosted one, that had healthy snack and munchie options??? Usually football parties have raw veggies but unfortunately are typically paired with unhealthy dressings or dips that go straight to the hips (sorry ladies)!


Worse yet, you might find yourself salivating over the all-american chips and french onion dip or creamy spinach dip that typically aren't as healthy as you’d like but still too good to pass up!


Super Bowl Sunday doesn’t have to be filled with unhealthy options that hurt your waistline or leave you feeling bloated and guilty afterwards. My warm and creamy spinach dip is loaded with gut-loving fiber, muscle toning protein, energy producing plant-based iron, heart healthy omega-3 fats and a great flavor that will make you smile :)


Using either chickpeas or white beans, this dip will thicken up to a delicious creamy cheesy texture that makes a fantastic dip for crackers, pita chips, tortillas or even as a warm spread on avocado toast!


It's as easy as...


2 handfuls spinach (chopped)

3/4 cups raw cashews (doesn’t need to be soaked)

3/4 cups filtered water

1/4 cup chickpeas OR white beans (drained and rinsed from a can is great!)

1/4 cup nutritional yeast (can be found at Trader Joe's, Whole Foods or Amazon)

1/4 tsp. garlic powder

1/4 tsp. onion powder

2 tsp. lemon juice

2 tbsp. water OR olive oil (for cooking spinach)


Start by roughly chopping the spinach. Set aside.

In a high speed blender, blend together all ingredients except for the spinach and 2 tbsp. of water/oil. Pulse to start before increasing speed to high. Blend on high speed for 1-2 minutes or until smooth and creamy. This will have a "cheesy" flavor due to the nutritional yeast.

Heat water OR oil in medium sauce pan, add chopped spinach and stir to wilt for about 2 minutes. Pour in the creamy "cheesy" sauce over the spinach and mix until fully incorporated and thickened, usually another 21-2 minutes.

Pour dip into a serving bowl and serve immediately with gluten free crackers, pita chips, pita bread wedges or tortilla chips.
